What We Believe In - What We Believe

1. Of God.

We believe in the one only living and true God, a Spirit, infinite, eternal and unchangeable, in His being and perfection; the Lord Almighty, who is love, most just in all His ways, most glorious in holiness, unsearchable in wisdom, plenteous in mercy, full of compassion, and abundant in goodness and truth. We worship Him in the unity of the Godhead and the mystery of the Holy Trinity, the Father, the Son and the Holy Spirit, three persons of the same substance, equal in power and glory.

2. Of Revelation.

We believe that God has revealed Himself in nature, in history, and in the heart of mankind; that He has been graciously pleased to make clearer revelation of Himself to people of God who spoke as they were moved by the Holy Spirit; and that in the fullness of time He has perfectly revealed Himself in Jesus Christ, the Word made flesh, who is the brightness of the Father's glory and the express image of His person. We receive the Holy Scriptures of the Old and New Testaments, as given in the original writings by inspiration of God, as the only infallible rule of faith and life, a faithful record of God's gracious revelations, and as the sure witness of Christ. John 1:14 Colossians 1:15

3. Of the Divine Purpose.

We believe that the eternal, wise, holy and loving purpose of God so embraces all events that while the freedom of mankind is not taken away, nor is God the author of sin, yet in His providence He makes all things work together in the fulfillment of His sovereign design and the manifestation of His glory. Romans 8:28

4. Of Creation and Providence.

We believe that God is the creator, upholder and governor of all things; that He is above all His works and that He made mankind, male and female, in His own image, set apart for fellowship with Him, free and able to choose between good and evil and responsible to his Maker and Lord. Genesis 1-3

5. Of the Sin of Mankind.

We believe that our first parents, being tempted by Satan, chose evil, and so fell away from God and came under the power of sin, the penalty of which is eternal death; and that, by reason of this disobedience, all mankind is born with a sinful nature, that we have broken God's law and that no one can be saved but by His grace. Romans 3:23 Genesis 3

6. Of the Grace of God.

We believe that God, out of His great love for the world, has given His only begotten Son to be the Saviour of sinners, and in the Gospel freely offers His all-sufficient salvation to all mankind. We believe also that God, in His own good pleasure, gave to His Son a people, an innumerable multitude, chosen in Christ unto salvation, holiness and service. Ephesians 1:4 Rom. 8:28-39

7. Of the Lord Jesus Christ.

We believe in and confess the Lord Jesus Christ, the only Mediator between God and mankind, who, being the Eternal Son of God, for us and for our salvation became truly man, being conceived of the Holy Spirit and born of the Virgin Mary, yet without sin. Unto us He has revealed the Father, by His word and Spirit, making known the perfect will of God. For our redemption, He fulfilled all righteousness, offered Himself a perfect sacrifice on the Cross, satisfied Divine justice and made atonement for the sins of the whole world. He rose from the dead and ascended into Heaven, where He ever intercedes for us. In the hearts of believers He abides forever as the indwelling Christ; above us and over us all He rules. Unto Him we render love, obedience and adoration as our Prophet, Priest and King. Phil. 2:5-11 Hebrews 2:17 Heb. 7:25-26

8. Of the Holy Spirit.

We believe in the Holy Spirit, the Lord and Giver of life, who proceeds from the Father and the Son, who moves upon our hearts to restrain us from evil and to incite us to good, and whom the Father is ever willing to give to all who ask Him. We believe that He has spoken through the saints of God in making known His truth to us for our salvation, He was sent forth in power to convict the world of sin, to enlighten our minds in the knowledge of Christ, and to persuade and enable us to obey the call of the Gospel; and that He abides with the Church, dwelling in every believer as the spirit of truth, of power, of holiness, of comfort and of love. Luke 11:13 John 16:5-16

9. Of Regeneration.

We believe in the necessity of regeneration, whereby we are made new creatures in Christ Jesus by the Spirit of God, who imparts spiritual life by thegracious and mysterious operation of His power. II Cor. 5:17 John 3:1-16

10. Of Faith and Repentance.

We believe that faith in Christ is a saving grace whereby we receive Him, trust in Him and rest upon Him alone for salvation as He is offered to us in the Gospel. We believe that this saving faith is always accompanied by repentance, wherein we confess and forsake our sins with the full intention of being obedient to God. John 1:12 Acts 2:38

11. Of Justification and Sonship.

We believe that God, on the sole ground of the perfect obedience and sacrifice of Christ, pardons those who by faith receive Him as their Saviour and Lord, accepts them as righteous and bestows upon them the adoption of sons, with a right to all privileges therein implied, including a conscious assurance of their sonship. I John 3:1 Galatians 3:26 Galatians 4:7

12. Of Sanctification.

We believe that those who are regenerated and justified grow in the likeness of Christ through fellowship with Him, the indwelling of the Holy Spirit, and obedience to the truth; that a holy life is the fruit and evidence of saving faith; and that the believer*s hope of continuance in such a life is in the preserving grace of God. And we believe that in this growth in grace Christians may attain that maturity and full assurance of faith whereby the love of God is made perfect in us. I Cor. 6:11b

13. Of Prayer.

We believe that we are encouraged continuously to draw near to God, our Heavenly Father, in the name of His Son, Jesus Christ, and on our own behalf and that of others to pour out our hearts humbly yet freely before Him, as becomes His beloved children, giving Him the honour and praise due His holy name, asking Him to glorify Himself on earth as in Heaven, confessing unto Him our sins and seeking of Him every gift needful for this life and for our everlasting salvation. We believe also, that in as much that all true prayer is prompted by the Holy Spirit, He will in response, grant us every blessing according to His unsearchable wisdom and the riches of His grace in Jesus Christ. Matthew 6:5-13

14. Of the Law of God.

We believe that the moral law of God, summarized in the Ten Commandments, testified to by the prophets, unfolded in the life and teachings of Jesus Christ, stands forever in truth and equity, and is not made void by faith, but on the contrary is established thereby. We believe that God requires of us to do justly, to love mercy, and to walk humbly with God; and that only through this harmony with the will of God shall be fulfilled that brotherhood of mankind wherein the Kingdom of God is to be made manifest. Micah 6:8 Luke 10:25-28

15. Of the Church.

We acknowledge one holy Catholic Church, the innumerable company of saints of every age and nation, who being united by the Holy Spirit to Christ their Head are one body in Him and have communion with their Lord and with one another. Further, we receive it as the will of Christ, that His Church on earth should be a visible and sacred brotherhood, consisting of those who profess faith in Jesus Christ and obedience to Him, together with their children. The church should be organized for the confession of His name, for the public worship of God, for the administration of the sacraments, for the upbuilding of the saints, and for proclaiming the Gospel throughout the world. We acknowledge as a part, more or less pure, of this universal brotherhood, every particular church throughout the world which professes this faith in Jesus Christ and obedience to Him as divine Lord and Saviour. I Peter 2:9 I Cor. 12:12-14

16. Of the Sacraments.

A Sacrament is an outward and visible sign of an inward and invisible grace. We acknowledge two sacraments, Baptism and the Lord's Supper, which were instituted by Christ, to be a perpetual obligation as signs and seals of the covenant ratified in His precious blood, as means of grace, by which, working in us, He does not only quicken our faith, but also strengthens and comforts our faith in Him, and as ordinances through the observance of which His Church is to confess her Lord and be visibly distinguished from the rest of the world.

1 ) Baptism with water into the name of the Father and of the Son and of the Holy Spirit is the sacrament by which are signified and sealed our union to Christ and participation in the blessings of the new covenant. The proper subjects of baptism are believers and children presented by their parents or guardians who are in the Christian faith, in the latter case, the parents or guardians should train up their children in the nurture and admonition of the Lord and should expect that their children will, by the operation of the Holy Spirit, come to a personal knowledge of Christ and receive the benefits which the sacrament is designed and fitted to convey. The Church is under the most solemn obligation to provide for their Christian instruction. Matthew 28:18-20 Acts 2:38-39 Acts 16:30-33

2) The Lord's Supper is the sacrament of communion with Christ and with His people, in which bread and wine are given and received in thankful remembrance of Him and His sacrifice on the Cross. They who in faith receive the same do, after a spiritual manner, partake of the body and blood of the Lord Jesus Christ to their comfort, nourishment and growth in grace. All may be admitted to the Lord's supper who make a credible profession of their faith in the Lord Jesus and of obedience to His law and who earnestly repent of their sins. I Cor. 11:23-26

17. Of the Ministry.

Ministry is the responsibility of using God's gifts to His glory in the service of others through the operation of Gods grace. He bestows gifts upon each member of the body of Jesus Christ and thus each member of the body has been called to a ministry. We believe that Jesus Christ, as the Supreme Head of the Church, has appointed therein a ministry of the word and sacraments, and calls men and women to this ministry; that the Church, under the guidance of the Holy Spirit, recognizes and chooses those whom He calls, and should thereupon duly ordain them to the work of the ministry. I Cor. 12:4-11 Eph. 4:11-12 Romans 12:4-8

18. Of Church Order and Fellowship.

We believe that the Supreme and only Head of the Church is the Lord Jesus Christ; that its worship, teaching, discipline and government must be administered according to His will by persons chosen for their fitness and fully set apart to their office; and that although the visible Church may contain unworthy members and is liable to err, yet believers ought not lightly to separate themselves from its communion, but are to live in fellowship with their brethren, which fellowship is to be extended, as God gives opportunity, to all who in every place call upon the name of the Lord Jesus. Eph. 4:11-13

19. Of Family.

We believe that all human life, no matter the age, is sacred and that life begins at conception. Children are a blessing from God. It is fitting that Christian parents present their children for dedication to the glory of God. It is the responsibility of parents, under the guidance of the Holy Spirit, in the fellowship of the Church to bring up their children in the love of and reverence for the Lord Jesus Christ. Psalms 139:13-16 Luke 18:16-17 Luke 2:22

20. Of the Resurrection, the Lost Judgment and the Future Life.

We believe that there will be a resurrection of the dead, both of the just and of the unjust, through the power of the Son of God, who shall come to judge the living and the dead; that the unsaved shall go away into eternal punishment and the righteous into life eternal. Matt. 25:31-46

21. Of Christian Service and the Final Triumph.

We believe that it is our duty as disciples and servants of Christ, to further the extension of His Kingdom, to do good unto all, to maintain the public and private worship of God, to hallow the Lords Day, to preserve the sanctity of marriage and of the family, to uphold the just authority of the State, and so to live in all honesty, purity and love, that our lives shall testify of Christ. We joyfully receive the word of Christ, bidding His people go into all the world and make disciples of all nations, declaring unto them that God was in Christ reconciling the world unto Himself. It is God[s desire that all be saved, and come to the knowledge of the Truth. We confidently believe that by His power and grace all His enemies shall finally be overcome and "with the coming of the New Heaven and the New Earth*, "the dwelling of God will be with men and He will live with them. They will be His people, and God Himself will be with them and be their God*. Matt. 28:18-20 Rev. 21:1-4

Stephen Ministry: Changes can be difficult - especially when they are unexpected. Stephen Ministers are trained to help people to cope with the changes that have happened in their life. If you have experienced great changes or know someone who has and would like to learn more about Stephen Ministry, call the church office.
Sunday Service CD’s: Our Sunday Service is available every Sunday on CD after the service. Also CD’s do not have to be returned, share them with family and friends! You can get a CD from either coming to the Welcome Centre or contacting the church office.

Can you help?
1. There are two ladies who get together every week to knit items to be donated to missions. They would love to have you join them.

2. Are you looking for a way to minister to others? We need a few people who would be willing to deliver worship service CDs to our shut-ins in the city of Chatham each Sunday.

Please contact the church office for more information or to volunteer.

Spiritual gifts are gifts to give away. God gives them to us, and we use them to serve others. How are you using your gifts right now? Are you looking for a new way to use them? If your spiritual gifts include one or more of the following--faith, mercy, teaching the faith, encouragement, or knowing--consider Stephen Ministry, our congregation's one-to-one caregiving ministry. This may be just what you've been looking for! Contact the church office for more information.

Realize I'm not God; I admit that I am powerless to control my tendency to do the wrong thing and my life is unmanageable.

"Happy are those who know they are spiritually poor"

            E = Principle 2

Earnestly believe that God exists, that I matter to him, and that he has the power to help me recover.

"Happy are those who mourn, for they shall be comforted"

            C = Principle 3

Consciously choose to commit all my life and will to Christ's care and control.

            "Happy are the meek"

            O = Principle 4

Openly examine and confess my faults to God, to myself, and to myself, to God, and to someone I trust.

"Happy are the pure in heart"

            V = Principle 5

Voluntarily submit to every change God wants to make in my life and humbly ask Him to remove my character defects.

"Happy are those whose greatest desire is to do what God requires"

            E = Principle 6

Evaluate all my relationships; Offer forgiveness to those who have hurt me and make amends for harm I've done to others except when to do so would harm them or others.

"Happy are the merciful" "Happy are the peacemakers"

            R = Principle 7

Reserve a daily time with God for self examination, Bible readings and prayer in order to know God and His will for my life and to gain the power to follow His will.

            Y = Principle 8

Yield myself to God to be used to bring this Good News to others, both by my example and by my words.

"Happy are those who are persecuted because they do what God requires"

The Bible clearly states "all have sinned." It is my nature to sin, and it is yours too. None of us is untainted. Because of sin, we've all hurt ourselves, we've all hurt other people, and others have hurt us. This means each of us need repentance and recovery in order to live our lives the way God intended.

You've undoubtedly heard the expression that "time heals all wounds." Unfortunately, it isn't true. As a pastor I frequently talk with people who are still carrying hurts from 30 or 40 years ago. The truth is - time often makes things worse. Wounds that are left untended fester and spread infection throughout your entire body. Time only extends the pain if the problem isn't dealt with.

What we need is a biblical and balanced program to help people overcome their hurts, habits and hang-ups. Celebrate Recovery is that program. Based on the actual words of Jesus rather than psychological theory, our recovery program is unique, and more effective in helping people change than anything else I've seen or heard of. Over the years I've witnessed how the Holy Spirit has used this program to transform literally thousands of lives at Saddleback Church and help people grow toward full Christ like maturity.

Most people are familiar with the classic 12 step program of A.A. and other groups. While undoubtedly many lives have been helped through the twelve steps, I've always been uncomfortable with that program's vagueness about the nature of God, the saving power of Jesus Christ, and the ministry of the Holy Spirit. So I began an intense study of the Scriptures to discover what God had to say about "recovery." To my amazement, I found the principles of recovery, and even their logical order, given by Christ in his most famous message, the Sermon on the Mount.

My study resulted in a ten-week series of messages called "The Road to Recovery." During that series, my Associate Pastor John Baker developed the workbooks, which became the heart of our Celebrate Recovery program. I believe that this program is unlike any recovery program you may have seen. There are seven features that make it unique:

This recovery program is based on God's Word, the Bible. When Jesus taught the Sermon on the Mount, he began by stating "Eight Ways to Be Happy." Today we call them the Beatitudes. From a conventional viewpoint, most of these statements didn't make sense. They sounded like contradictions. But when you fully understand what Jesus is saying, you'll realize that these eight principles are God's road to recovery, wholeness, growth, and spiritual maturity.

This recovery program is forward-looking. Rather than wallowing in the past, or dredging up and rehearsing painful memories over and over, Celebrate Recovery focuses on the future. Regardless of what has already happened, the solution is to start making wise choices now and depend on Christ's power to help me make those changes.

This recovery program emphasizes personal responsibility. Instead of playing the "accuse and excuse" game of victimization, this program helps people face up to their own poor choices and deal with what they can do something about. We cannot control all that happens to us. But we can control how we respond to everything. That is a secret of happiness. When we stop wasting time fixing the blame, we have more energy to fix the problem. When you stop hiding your own faults and stop hurling accusations at others, then the healing power of Christ can begin working in your mind, will, and emotions.

This recovery program emphasized spiritual commitment to Jesus Christ. The 3rd principle calls for people to make a total surrender of their lives to Christ. Lasting recovery cannot happen without this step. Everybody needs Jesus. Celebrate Recovery is thoroughly evangelistic in nature. In fact, the first time I took our entire church through this program over 500 people prayed to receiver Christ on a single weekend. It was an amazing spiritual harvest. And during the ten week series that I preached to kick-off this program, our attendance grew by over 1,500 people! Don't be surprised if this program becomes the most effective outreach ministry in your church. Today, nearly 73% of the people who've been through Celebrate Recovery have come from outside our church. Changed lives always attract others who want to be changed.

This recovery program utilizes the biblical truth that we need each other in order to grow spiritually and emotionally. It is built around small group interaction and the fellowship of a caring community. There are many therapies, growth programs, and counselors today that are built around one-on-one interaction. But Celebrate Recovery is built on the New Testament principle that we don't get well by ourselves. We need each other. Fellowship and accountability are two important components of spiritual growth. If your church is interested in starting small groups, this is a great way to get started.

This recovery program addresses all types of habits, hurts and hang-ups. Some recovery programs deal only with alcohol or drugs or another single problem. But Celebrate Recovery is a "large umbrella" program under which a limitless number of issues can be dealt with. At Saddleback Church, only one out of three who attend Celebrate Recovery are dealing with alcohol or drugs. We have dozens of other specialized groups too.

Finally, this recovery program produces lay ministers! Because Celebrate Recovery is biblical and church-based, it produces a continuous stream of people moving into ministry after they've found recovery in Christ. Eighty-five percent of the people who've gone through the program are now active members of Saddleback Church, and an amazing 42% are now using their gifts and talents serving the Lord in some capacity in our church.

In closing, let me say that the size of your church is no barrier to beginning a Celebrate Recovery ministry. You can start it with just a small group of people and watch it grow by word-of-mouth. Your won't be able to keep it a secret for long!

You are going to see lives changed in dramatic ways. You are going to see hopeless marriages restored and people set free from all kinds of sinful habits, hang-ups, and hurts as they allow Jesus to be Lord in every area of their lives. To God be the glory! We'll be praying for you.
        Dr. Rick Warren

Dear Friends, Jan. 5, 2007

New Year's Greetings to you all!

What is good? What does the Lord require of us? The prophet Micah declares, "To act justly and to love mercy and to walk humbly with your God." (Micah 6:8)

One of the easiest traps to fall into, ministering as we do here in Ethiopia, is to believe that our choice to live here is God's required sacrifice for us (6:6,7). If living here primarily served that purpose, I'm sure self-piety and self-pity would have consumed me long ago. Ethiopia is simply where God has called us to act justly, love mercy and walk humbly with our God. Yes, that means that we live our lives separated from family and friends, and yes, this is in itself a measurable sacrifice, but that can never qualify us as anything amazing.

Here's what is amazing, that we live here, seeking to act justly, love mercy and walk humbly as Christ's ambassadors and as your agents. While it is true that we are far away, we feel very connected to so many more of you than when we lived at home. This is the result of dedicating ourselves to God's purposes through your prayers and your resources. We are your hands & feet entrusted to do eternal things with some of what God has entrusted to you. We take this seriously, and are humbled by the honour.

The other side of living our lives in connection with so many is the fact that we live in a bit of a glass box. If you follow our missives, you know more about our lives than most self-respecting Canadians would ever want to share. The reason for this is that we are here as part of Christ's body...as part of you. Thus, we feel it imperative to be accountable to you as before God. It is because of this accountability that I write you today.

As Christ's servants in Ethiopia, we have been required by the government to build one prison latrine per year. While this has been an added blessing in our work, we have never felt it central to our primary reason for being here - A's. This work has instead served as our door to Ethiopia and A's, and God has blessed these latrine projects. In Welkite Prison we saw many from the other religion brought to truth. At Ziway Prison the door to ministry was opened where it had once been firmly closed. Of course you can add to this that 1,400 prisoners now have access to water, proper showers, toilets and laundry facilities. God has answered one of our prayers, that these latrine projects would be received by prisoners as humble acts of justice and mercy.

Now God is changing things. Starting in Aug'07 I have an opportunity to work here under a new permit, studying Afar systems of justice with a view to bringing government systems in line with traditional justice in Afar. At present almost all Afar prisoners are serving time without conviction or sentencing. We believe that God wants to implement aspects of Restorative Justice (based on Biblical principles) that can bridge gaps and resolve these unjust situations. This work will require God's hand. Already, Afar Justice leaders have informally endorsed this plan. He seems to be preparing the way.

BUT, before I can begin that work I am obligated to finish one more prison latrine. I believe God has led us to Ziway Zonal Prison. The need is tremendous. Raw sewage sits in pools beside the existing latrine. I can hardly walk into the building because of the stench. Something else caught my attention the first time I visited this prison: 15-20 women and children living in a 2-room mud house with one tiny window. I believe God is leading us to build a new dorm for these "the least". Prisoners are already praying with us for funding (most are from the other religion), in spite of the fact that two other organizations had promised help, but not delivered.

We have decided to begin construction now with the funds God has provided to the end of 2006. We have 5 months before the heavy rains come and all construction in Ethiopia comes to a halt.

Periodically we publish requests for funding. We first published this need in November, and then followed it with an article in our December "Keeping In Step" (pg.4). It is the greatest financial need we have faced on the field to date. The situation has been exacerbated by the fact that we have learned that we will not be receiving funding from another organization as we had hoped. As we seek to act justly, love mercy and walk humbly as Christ's ambassadors and your agents, we invite you to help us finish our responsibility constructing latrines, and finish well, all to the glory of God. Our first priority is to build the latrine ($16,484 US), and then to construct a biogas digester to clean up the mess ($7,454 US). Finally, we pray that we will be able to build a new women's dormitory ($15,310 US).

Our prayer is that you, our praying team, will join us in a big way, giving spectacularly to this very urgent need. We trust God that the team He has built will prove more than able for the task at hand. Please join us in prayer.

In Christ,

Ken, Nancy, Adam and Luke

Name:Joel and Gwen HartmanChildren: Sarah, David and Natalie Country:Brazil Sending Organization: New Tribes Mission

   Newsletter Excerpt:

Dear Friends at St. Paul's,

Greetings from the banks of the Amazon - at Puraquequara (PQQ)!! Once again it is so great to have these weeks here with our 3 wonderful kids, while we get the next two books ready to print!

Thank you for your prayers for us over the past months with all the details we mentioned that needed to fall into place for this to happen!

Praise the Lord that Christa made it into Novo Demini and we were able to correct the rest of the scriptures needed to get these 2 books finished and here to Mark for printing. These weeks we have done many hours of proofreading and formatting and yesterday we gave it to Mark! Thank you for your part through giving and praying, so that we can keep giving more of God's Word to the growing Yanomami Church!

Sarah, David and Natalie, along with all there friends here, are good and ready for a break - this is their final week of school for this semester. Their last day of regular classes is Monday and then they have 2 days of sports competitions and then assemble and awards ceremony on Thursday. We will drive up to Boa Vista on Friday and fly into the village on Tuesday the 19th.

Please continue to pray with us for Natalie's health. She is fine most of the time with the medicine she is taking, but still gets bouts of nausea several times each week. We will be consulting our Dr. this weekend again.

We have heard several times from our co-workers by e-mail and they seem to be doing OK in our absence, though Joao did come down with malaria, a 1st for him! When we fly in to the tribe the newer couple, Wellington and Aguida, will fly out for a break. So we will have the Christmas vacation time there with Joao and Hope and Nathan again. The kids are hoping for drier weather this Christmas so that the river will be low, as it should be this time of year, so that the sandbars will be out - this way it is better for swimming, fishing and camping!

May you have a wonderful Christmas with family and friends in your part of the world! Thank you for being a vital part of what God is doing here, through your gifts and faithful prayers! Keep praying for us that our lives would truly reflect Jesus Christ to our Yanomami friends at Novo Demini!

With Love,

October 11, 2006
Dear Faithful Friends

It has been a while since we have been able to communicate with you. We are encouraged with what the Lord is doing in and through us here in Sucre and we thank you for your part in this ministry. Thank you for your prayers on our behalf and for your financial gifts. May God always be glorified!

We have made the transition from the city of Cochabamba to Sucre and we are enjoying this new city. What a beautiful place filled with wonderful people. Both Patrick and Andres began school in September. Both have made new friends at school and in the neighbourhood where we live. Lily has the opportunity to teach Social Studies and Science to the children there. She is teaching them about Canada! The children are from Bolivia, England, the USA, Australia and Canada.

You were praying about a home here in Sucre and God wonderfully answered those prayers with the kind of home we wanted. Thank you Lord! God knows our needs and gives us all accordingly.

We have been extremely busy since the day we arrived in Sucre. My father, Alex Muir, brought a team of folks from Canada to distribute little solar powered radios in the month of August. Before the team's arrival, we had to prepare for this team and visit the areas of distribution. Thank the Lord, the team was able to distribute 500 radios to both Christian and Non-Christian Quechua folks in three remote areas of Bolivia. Now, our job is to follow-up the distribution in these three areas with further teaching of God's Word and answering questions. Our prayer is that as the folks listen to their radios, the Spirit will spark an interest to learn more about God's free gift of salvation. Pray that God will be working in the hearts of those who will hear the Gospel through the radios.

The Lord has also provided a church for us to attend and to minister in here in Sucre. We are working on helping the church leadership develop a ministry to the Quechua speaking members and develop an outreach ministry for the many Quechua people that live around the church. Please be praying for the "Christ is Alive Baptist Church" in Sucre Bolivia.

Bolivia continues to experience political problems even after the change of government. Please continue to pray for Bolivia's President and that the people of the land will seek salvation and security in the Lord and not in governments or revolutions.

It is always a pleasure to be able to write you and inform you on what God is doing here in Bolivia. One sheet of paper is never enough to tell you all the stories and testimonies of how great our God is. May He bless each household and each individual.

In His service,
Greg and Lily Muir

SPCC Short Term Mission Activities - Short Term Reports

SPCC has been sending out short-term missionaries since 1996. Most of the trips involve a construction element along with opportunities to minister in song, giving testimony and sharing scripture. The trips are usually 10 days to two weeks long and are throughout the year depending on the host countries availability.

The most exciting part of any of these trips is to see what God is able to do both in the 3rd world country and within our team as well. Everyone who goes comes back with an experience that will never be forgotten. God has not only called them to go but while away He has challenged them to grow by doing things that are out of the ordinary, by eating things that we normally wouldn't have, by sleeping in places we would never have dream of! All of these things are what makes our relationship with Christ much deeper and the desire to share about Him even stronger.

We pray that God will continue to call people to go ...would you be one of them? Short-Term Mission Trips

Where are we headed?

Into the new school year, and fast! We are preparing to launch into another year of "helping to change the world by turning self-centered students into Christ-centered labourers".

With September full of outreaches, like the Real Life Kit (RLK) giveaway and the establishing of discipleship group bible studies, we are striving to be a part of Jesus Christ changing lives at UBC. It is our goal this month that every first year studen would have the opportunity to hear the gospel and perhaps begin a relationship with God. With the handing out of over 1000 RLK's to these freshmen, in addition to facilitating 30-second Spiritual Interest Questionnaires with all of the large first year classes, we hope to surface those students who are spiritually interested and follow them up.

Asking in faith together...Pray that God would help me to live first by the "Greatest commandment" (Matt 22:37-39) and then the Great commission (Matt 28: 18-20)Pray that the Lord would use me to lead two women of noble character (like the Bereans mentioned in Acts 17:10-17) to faith in Jesus this semester at UBCPray that the Discipleship groups (including the 1st year studies and seeker studies would be full of potential leaders/spiritual multipliers in our movement) and for the leadership discipleship groups to grow in living out the Greatest Commandment as their #1 priority as they learn more about spiritual multiplcaiton this yearPray that the Lord would enable and use me to raise up 5 spiritual mulitpliers from my remain time at UBC

Thank you for partnering with me in this!

2006 trip to Guyana - Guyana

By Joe Korpan - Team Leader

Trip length - July 28 to Aug.11, 2006

Team members - Heidi Cook, Kayla Cook, Ryan Myers, Jasmin Doub (Newbury), and Rebecca Clark (Newbury)

This trip was nothing like any other trip I'd been on. This was the most rewarding, the most emotional, the most spiritual, and the most interesting all wrapped up in one. Pastor Lalo wanted us to see the "big picture" of what's happening in Guyana, and what his church is doing. We certainly saw this. His church and congregation is involved nearly everyday with serving the poor of the area and growing the church. He indicated a number of times during conversations that he built the church on the book of Acts, and I can see that they're doing all they possibly can considering the poverty in and around the congregation. They are very poor by our standards, but they are definitely happier than us. The church appears to be their life. Everything that occurs is based around the church. It is number one in their lives, at all ages. The women come to work, fellowship, meetings, choir practice, etc. The children come to play, bible study, choir practice, etc. Everyone we met loved Pastor Lalo and wanted to spend time with him. Wherever we travelled, there was someone who knew and respected Pastor Lalo - eg., Canadian Embassy, Guyana Airport Customs.

In general, we had meals together as a group, prepared by Jennifer and / or Pastor Lalo's wife Pauline. We were fed well. Each day began by 6:30 am. Every day we did devotions as a group, taking turns throughout our stay. Then each night we wrapped up with a "roundtable" chat about the day (just the 6 of us) - sharing what we liked, what bothered us, etc., whatever we wanted to share. Many nights Pastor Lalo stayed and visited with us after dinner and it was like having our own bible study or sermon right there. We had no access to TV or radio while there.

The following are highlights of the 2 weeks in Guyana. For more details, consider talking to one of the team members about their experiences. 2 ½ hr church service (place was packed) prayer ministry at hospital youth bible study in evening work at new church site in the mornings - on the foundation and painting/decorating some of the rooms at the Children's Church building. help with food programme, cooking as needed and boxing up when cooked and delivery on several occasions.. Approx 280 boxed meals are given out each time to children, or adults with children that Pastor knew prepared and led/taught children's church. trip to the interior and shared in a wedding and worship service

Thank-you for your continued support of short-term missions. We are privileged to be ambassadors of Christ for you in Guyana.

Bolivia Report - Bolivia

March 31st - April 15, 2006

This year Melodie Thompson and I (Kathy Smith) journeyed to Bolivia for two weeks. We enjoyed the hospitality of Tom and Kathy Sutherland in Cochabamba.

We joined in with everyday life at the Sutherlands - enjoying fellowship times with other short-term mission groups from the US, Sunday services - morning and evening, getting to know Tom & Kathy's family. Tom had also lined up several opportunities to witness the ministries that Pioneers is involved with.

Some of these ministries are:Church planting - we helped clean up an old garage area that has been donated for a new church building - cleaning the floors and walls, pulling weeds, moving boxes out of the way.Prison Day Care: - we joined with Shirley and Jerry Margraves who have been faithful at gathering up between 30 and 40 children each day who live in the local prisons with the mom's or dad's. The children are free to go outside of the jail each day so they are collected and brought to the Margraves home where they are bathed, given clean clothes, feed, played with, taught Bible stories and enjoy a nap time! This ministry has outgrown the home and we saw the new location of the day care property. Plans have been made to build and as funds and help allow this centre will hopefully be completed sometime within the next year. Chaski Radio station - this project has been ongoing for several years. The broadcast is in Quechua and goes throughout the Andes mountains. Galcom radios from Hamilton ON have been tuned to receive this radio station and many have come to know the Lord through this radio ministry. We met several of the people who volunteer with the programming - writing Bible studies, doing dramas, playing Christian music and broadcasting the weather and local news! Alex Muir who is a home missionary with Pioneers in New Brunswick has taken several thousand of the Galcom radios to Bolivia and he continues to go once a year to see them distributed. We have supported this ministry.High Risk Children - A school at the edge of town that is being supported by the church Tom & Kathy attend. Their church started this school when they realized that many of the local children in this area where from broken homes and they could not afford to go to school. They start at kindergarten ...however, there is a small day care happening here as well as many of the children bring their younger brothers and sisters with them to school because there is no one home to look after them. The school offers up to grade 8 education. They have a full time cook who prepares a meal at noon and most times this is perhaps that only meal these children receive. Baby washing - Melodie had an opportunity to go downtown and help ‘wash the babies'. Several of the country Quechua ladies have come into the city hoping for a better life and perhaps just to sell this year's food crop so while in town a local church has taken on the task of washing babies every Saturday afternoon. Melodie was excited to be able to help out her ...I think she ended up almost as wet as some of the kids!

All of these programs are currently supported by North American funds and the hope of Pioneers is to be able to support from within their own country. Tom has been given several thousand acres of land and he has built a proposal called "PLANTING HOPE" which should see profit going back to the above ministries, to the local churches and several other areas of need. We continue to pray and seek out where we can be of most help in this new project plan.

Victorious Ministry Through Christ (VMTC) is an international organization which has ministered to Church leaders in England, Canada, Scandinavia, Australia, New Zealand, Southeast Asia, Pakistan and the United States. From Anglican and Lutheran Bishops to Assembly of God missionaries and pastors, God has used this loving ministry, rooted in Scripture; to heal His soldiers.Gone are the rejections of the past that force us to look for approval and never find it. Gone is the perfectionism and control. Gone is the self condemnation and criticism. The captive is set free and the healing process can begin. Christ's Love has new room to grow in ministry to family and loved ones and in ministry to the Church. Demons have to flee - Praise God!Maybe you are a person who has been to one of these schools but it was a long time ago. It may be time to come again. Come preferably husband and wife to a much needed opportunity to experience God's healing for you and for others. If you are a pastor, the spouse of a pastor, or if you know a pastor who would receive a blessing from this ministry, then accept this as an invitation to attend a Clergy School of Prayer Ministry this year.Check out their site at www.vmtc.ca

Currently at St. Paul's we partially support six missionary families from around the world. We have missionaries serving in North America, South America, Europe and Africa. It is our privilege to work along side these families as they have answered the call of God on their lives. For more information see each of the countries listed. We also support several other missionaries on an occassional bases. It has been a great blessing for us to be in ministry with so many around the world.

" Therefore go and make disciples of all nations, baptizing them in the name of the Father and of the Son and of the Holy Spirit, and teaching them to obey everything I have commanded you. And surely I am with you always, to the very end of the age." Matthew 28:19-20 NIV When St. Paul's Congregational Church began in 1989, we expressed our desire to be "a gathered people, called to glorify God".A gathered people, called to glorify God; with Jesus Christ as head, the Scriptures as our authority, empowered by the Holy Spirit; committed to the worship of God, to personal Christian growth, and to loving and caring for one another;called by God into our community and beyond; to make Christ known and to share His love in a sacrificial,life-changing way. To achieve that goal, we made a two-pronged commitment:"We uphold the Sovereignty of Jesus Christ and The Authority of Scripture." Because of this process our expressed mission statement can be rendered down to just four words:1. We are PEOPLE of God(i) People in Unity - John 17(ii) People in Fellowship - I John 1:1-4(iii) People Worshipping - John 4:22-24(iv) People Praying - II Chron. 7:142. We have a clear and distinct PURPOSETo go unto all the world physically by sending missionaries and by giving money to world missions. And go into our world of Chatham-Kent through prayers, evangelism, and by loving our community. Matthew 28:18-20 3. We know the source of our POWER(i) The Holy Spirit - Acts 1:8(ii) The Written Word of God - II Tim. 3:164. We are in existence with one Mandate - to PROCLAIM(i) Jesus Christ as Lord - Phil. 2:11(ii) The gospel - I Cor. 15: 1-3

Our church is a community of believers with Jesus Christ as its head. We seek to love, respect and care for one another as a demonstration of our love for God.Our outreach is to those who have no church home. Many in our area are disillusioned with religion. They have felt the sting of legalism with its impossible demands. Some have seen hypocrisy. Others have had no religious background and therefore see Christianity as irrelevant. The missing element has been healthy relationships with mature believers in Jesus.

Bethel Bible Series - Bethel Bible Congregational

The Bethel Bible Series is a tool used to help adults gain an understanding of the Bibilical message. It's primary objective is to give the students an overview of the Old and the New Testament scriptures as a base fo springboard of other Bible Studies. It takes between one and a half to two years to complete. It is worth every minute spent in class and in reading between classes. There are two levels offered:Congregational: Get your feet wet in a non-threatening way. It leans toward lecture-style teaching but disucssion is not discouraged. You decide how much to put into it.Intensive: The same material is covered in more depth. It includes time for questions, memory work, test, weekly studies, with summers off.

Walking to School - Haiti

Part of our daily routine was to walk the children to school. The kids are divided into two groups, those that go in the morning are in classes for there own age and those that go in the afternoon have most likely never been to school so you will find 10 and 11 year olds in grade 1. The morning class ends around 1 p.m. and then the afternoon classes begin and finish around 5 p.m. We would take the children up in the morning and then fetch them at noon. Go back with the afternoon group and then return later to pick them up. They go to school 5 days a week. Each of the kids wear a uniform of a white shirt and navy skirt / pants. Most of the children did have a backpack. I must admit i never really saw what was in it but they all carried them proudly to school. Back at the orphanage they had a tutor come in to teach the children English. At the school they of course taught in Creole.

Host Family - Haiti

Our Host Family at HCRM is Dr. Joe and Cindy Kraft. They have come to Haiti to adopt 4 children and have been at HCRM for just over 6 months. The Haitian government usually only allows 2 children to be adopted and if you already have a family of your own they also take that into consideration. Dr. Joe and Cindy do have 4 children of their own so the Haitian government is taking time to consider this application. While we were there they were turned down because of their already large family...however, we heard several months later that all the adoptions were approved so they are heading back to Texas after a long year of prayer and countless meetings and paperwork.

With them back to school she now has time to dedicate to other work.Family Group: Our group is excited to continue the "Purpose Driven Life" book.. We would love to see more and more people using their lives in Christ's service. We are challenging a number of people to be discipled so please pray for Sr. Julio, D. Augusta, Maria de Graca, Dina, Rui, Rosa, Elizabeth that they would sense their need for such.Youth Challenge: Our dinner with the youth went very well. 33 young people "invaded" our home for a BB and then movie and popcorn. One of the benefits of working with young people is that we too feel younger. We have a group that goes from 12 to 112 years old. Please pray with us for this group and that God would give us wisdom to meet their particular needs. May we also serve as living examples.Striving toward the goal...
